Default Fans running with air temp

I have a 2013 f150 Limited w/ 3.5 EB. 170k.
within the last year or so the cooling fans come immediately when “cold” started on a hot day. Over 80 degrees Fahrenheit. I have heard it on mid speed sometimes but usually it goes right to high speed. This does not seem to be an issue at lower temps. I’m curious why? It seems like they’re running off of ambient temp sensor rather than engine temp sensor. Anyone able to advise?

I can get in my truck that I have parked in the garage and the fans will come on high for a short while due to all of the ambient heat, I assume. I have always considered it normal since they quiet down quickly.

you know i have not considered that, and i am not sure why? the AC has been underperforming for quite a while. it works so i am just used to having average cooling. my wife got in the other day when it was pretty hot, and fussed about it not working. made an appointment yesterday so i guess we will see. Thanks

My bad, I misunderstood you, I thought you were talking about the radiator cooling fans?
