Default F-150 Engineering Mode

I own a 2016 F-150. I am experiencing a very intermittent check engine light. After 3 or 4 key cycles, the light turns itself off. This process is repeated every couple of weeks. I have been starting the truck in Engineering Mode to see if I can see what code is being stored. I have read conflicted information though that this mode does not read PCM or ECM codes. Does anyone know for sure if this is the case? Any advice is most helpful.

You need a code reader or Forscan to pull the codes.

Any auto parts store can read the basic code for you.
