Energizer F150
It just keeps running, and running, and running...
I'm new to this forum. I'm from Southern California. I bought a brand new F150 4X4 super-cab with 8' bed, dual gas tanks, custom wheels, etc, etc, etc back in 1992. 18 years later it is still plugging along.
My truck now has 226K miles on it. Engine still OK; leaks a little oil. Just replaced the plugs - the gap is supposed to be .045" and the ones I pulled were at .065". I also put in new plug wires, cap, and rotor. The wire from the coil to the distributor had turned to powder in the boot at the distributor cap end. No wonder it was missing a bit.
Gas mileage had gotten down to about 10.5 MPG, but even when it was new it was only about 15.5 MPG. It will probably be a bit better now with the new wires and plugs :-)
Pretty much the ol' truck has been a work horse and worth every penny I paid for it.
It's had the usual problems - I think I've replaced the starter two or three times along with the alternator and water pump. No problems with the tranny or transfer case. A/C still works (needs a recharge and/or conversion). Got a minor vacuum leak somewhere because the A/C vents switch from blowing out the dash to the defrost vents when climbing a grade and the engine vacuum drops. Oh, and I replaced the electric window motors once on the passenger side and twice on the driver's side.
I busted some plastic stuff under the hood while I was poking around pulling plugs - those cheap plastic vacuum lines had gotten pretty brittle. And I leaned on the windshield washer reservoir and broke the bolt tab on one end.
There appears to be a missing vacuum line on the intake manifold - I came here to see if anyone could help me figure out what is supposed to go there. Looks like it had a vacuum hose on it recently and I don't remember removing one. So I'll poke around the forums and see what I can find. I did see some posts of the vacuum line routing - I looked under my hood and did not find any similar diagram.
