Default Considering a Purchase

Hello everyone!

I'm considering purchasing an F150 to serve two purposes: have a decent backup vehicle/heavy or dirty item hauler for the family. We currently depend on my sedan which doesn't help me when I need to get over to my mother's or sister's house to help them with my snowblower (among other uses)

But for common day to day usage, I'm considering starting a "final mile" delivery service hauling small loads across town. Won't keep the lights on, so to speak, but hopefully might cover the note on the truck, most months.

I'm not trying to do anything fancy. As I write this I'm looking at a '16 F150 XLT with the 3.5L Turbo V6, with 208k miles. Currently priced at $15k.

My question is basically this:

Is there a particular year or engine I should avoid? Is 208k too much? Well I run into reliability issues?

What would you buy, and for what price, given the mission I described above?

My opinion is that if you wish to start any type of commercial trucking business you should be looking for at least a 3/4 ton, and really it should probably be more like a 1 ton dually diesel. You'll be limited by what you can do with a half ton, or you'll be tearing up your half ton.

As far as 208K miles - that's a lot for a '16. Average mileage is 10K to 15K per year and that '16 has been racking up 30K per year... I guess that could be good because it makes me think there must be a lot of highway miles.

I'm no expert but I don't like the idea of paying 15K for a rig with 208K on it and I don't like the idea of taking a V6 half ton and putting it to work as a commercial truck. I'm just a guy with opinions though (not an expert)

Let us know what you decide to do and how it works out for you.

Im off the opinion that 200k is way too much for $15k... Id be comfortable at $5-7k...
If it had extensive maintenance records & was a 1 owner... Id go to $10,000 tops.
Good luck finding a suitable candidate. There are LOADS of former rental F150s on various outlets like Enterprise, Avis, etc with well under 100,000 miles. You will pay a lil more BUT
they will be eligible for a Ford ESP.

200k for that price is a bad deal. I’d keep looking.

Welcome. As stated above that is to much for that much mileage. I purchased a 2005 XLT last May with only 84K for 10K.
