Talking Chevy to Ford Convert

Hi Everyone, you have a great forum here!

I have owned a couple of Fords in the past: 1988 F250 350 gas engine, 1978 F250 400 gas engine, 2006 F350 dually 6.0, 2008 F250 6.0, all 4x4.

Since then I have owned Chevys exclusively, mainly for work. I sold my landscaping business in 2016 and have been driving a car since.

Now that COVID is ****ting all over our recreational activities and travel, my wife and I decided to pick up a Travel Trailer and tour the countryside at an acceptably safe distance from crowds, etc.

We didn't need much in the way of a Travel Trailer, just the dogs and us, kids are all over 18... thank GOD! So, I was looking at 1/2 ton trucks to pull it with. I did a ton of due diligence between Ford and Chevy and truth be told, I liked the interior of the Chevy better, along with the price. But, I found that unless I went up to a 2500, none of the Chevy options had enough towing capacity or ***** to tow without going 45 MPH up hills.

Enter 3.5L Ecoboost. Holy WOW factor! This thing has some SACK! I thought I was going to have to buy a stripped down model if I went brand new but then a Certified Pre Owned F150 Lariat 4x4 with the 6.5' bed and 33k miles came in at my local dealership. I got them to throw in Ford's 100k bumper to bumper warranty and gap protection for $38k which is more warranty than a brand new truck and this thing has more bells and whistles than I even knew existed!

We have gone on 2 trips to the mountains here in Arizona and this bad boy towed like a dream! Both times we climbed over 5,000 in elevation and last time we did it during 50MPH gusts of wind.

Our Jayco travel trailer is 28'8" long and weighs about 7,700 lbs fully loaded. We are well under the towing capacity, just where I like it.

Anyhow, I plan to do a few upgrades but I will search around before posting up about it.

Thanks again for the great forum!

Yes they are nice, but you are probably closer tow limits than you think. These lite trucks run out of Payload way before they can reach towing weights.

Thanks for the concern. This truck has the max tow package, 3.55 gears and 156" wheelbase. It is rated by the factory at 11,600. The tongue weight of the 24RBS is only 610lbs and max weight is 7,700. Crazy huh?

We are well under the max limits.
