Default Another noob from SC

Hi everybody. I'm in Anderson and own an old beater I use for hauling trash and poop; 1990 f150, 302ci, aod. Hope someone can help me with problem I'm having with this thing.
While driving along, engine starts chugging, missing, smoking, and clattering like the lifters have floated from over reving. Engine finally quits, but will still turn over (not seized). Plenty of oil and water. Let it sit and cool and it will start and run again for awhile. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer. Jim.
