Default 4wd not working

Hey folks, I'am john and a new memberand I have been having trouble with my 2001 F150. When I try to go into 4WD the lights on the dash say that 4WD is engaged but it really is not engaged. The mechanics have replaced the vacuum solonoid on two acassions and it works for a little while then reverts back to the same problem. Can anyone help me out here as these solonoids are costing me between 2 and 3 hundred bucks a shot.

Welcome John, Is the solenoid getting wet causing it to prematurely fail?
