Default 2.7 or 5.0??

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I'll soon be getting a new company vehicle, and would appreciate some input as to my choice. I'll be going from using my personal car ( Prius ) to a pick up. I am looking for a single cab 2x4 with either the 5.0 or 2.7 Eco. I'll have a gas card, so fuel economy isn't an issue.

Are there any 0-60 times, or 1/4 mile times for these 2 trucks that will remain stock. I have searched the web and forums, but it seems the tests are on 4x4s or crew/extended cabs, or modified.

Thanks for anyone's help

Mitch

What's a 2x4?

You're getting a company vehicle, and your main question is how fast the truck is?

You might want to do review the specs on the Ford site as to WEIGHT of the different versions. If you find data that answers your question for a SuperCrew or SuperCab, the regular cab is only hundreds of pounds lighter, so you're not going to see huge differences. You'd want to find 4x2 data, not 4x4.

Don't let the size of the 2.7 fool you. It has a TON of power.

why aren't you looking at 3.5l?

if gas isnt an issue go 5.0 or 3.5

Look at the options for each truck, drive both, and get the one that makes you happy. The 2.7 is well liked on this forum with very little problems, most are general problems across all engine platforms. The 5.0 seems to have worked all of the bugs out of the motor. There is a "quarter mile time" thread posted as a sticky, but if you're not racing the truck for a living there's really no point.

Aftermarket products are becoming more plentiful for the Ford TT engines, and the 5.0 has a lot of stuff that is out there. If you plan on modding the 5.0, be aware of what you're getting. It's a truck, not a Mustang.

Since it's a company vehicle, you won't have to worry about the various EcoBoost issues due to it's complexity. So I'd go 2.7 for the slight bump in torque and "feel".

I started out with plans on buying a 2016 5.0 supercrew, I drove it and it felt great! I really had no interest in the "smaller" engines. I wound up driving my sister's 2015 3.5 eb and actually liked it. I was intrigued... I started weighing the pros and cons of each engine and started shopping. Just on a whim, I decided to test the 2.7 eb and fell in love! Not sure of the actual performance difference between the three, but I thought the 2.7 felt the "sportiest". Awesome acceleration and it felt more nimble than the other two. Just seat of the pants, but that's really what matters right? Moral of the story... I bought the 2.7 eb and haven't looked back!
