1997 f150 4.2 v6 cel problems
I am new to this site and in desperate need of help with my truck. Little history of the truck.
Steering wheel column repaired then cel problems began. Motor rebuilt and now coding p1537.
Mechanic paperwork states replace cam sensor, crank sensor & 1 other sensor i can't remember.
Is there possibly something more simple of a repair? I have to do the work myself since i am unable to pay for more work and hoping it is simple since i am very small female.
Truck motor was rebuilt nov 2011 and has only 1700 driven since then. Don't go anywhere far just close by and not that often. What can i check for probable causes?????

P1537 - Intake Manifold Runner Control Malfunction (Bank One Stuck Open)
In your case this engine has 2 vacuum diaphrams that control runners inside the intake manifold. One of those vacuum diaphrams is either leaking vacuum and not working correctly, or the linkage from the diaphram to the intake manifold is disconnected and not allowing the manifold to operate correctly.
Those two diaphrams are on the back side of the intake manifold and are VERY difficult to see in this vehicle. The upper intake has to come off the engine in order to work on those or replace the diaphrams.
Considering the labor that is involved, I would replace both diaphrams as since one has failed and they both have the same amount of mileage on them, the other one is close to failing as well.

Thank you for the vacuum info
I will definitely look for vacuum leak or unconnected wiring. It is possible that when the steering column was repaired, they might have messed up a few wires because that is when it all started. I can't believe anything in the intake manifold would be sticking since the motor has been rebuilt.
I look forward to other replies as well. I like to see all probable causes but nice to know when more agree with one thread. Thanks gents.

Hello and thank you for your reply. Would you happen to have photos of where these vacuum leaks can be?
