My last ford was my '90 Bronco and she done me well for 18 years, best off-road vehicle I owned, But the harsh winters ate her up and after many patch jobs I had to put her down. Even the kids loved her we called her "Betsy". She loved to go topless!
Fast forward to last fall My dad bought a "17 Tacoma SR5, five days after he had major health issues, medically not allowed to drive anymore, mom passed so he gave me the truck. I've tried to like it and now have 6000 miles on it but the drive train issues, lack of power v6, and terrible projection headlight system I just can't stand it anymore. Not to mention my kids are grown now and even know it's four doors the lack of room for fullsize adult is terrible. I hate it honestly.
I have to get something bigger to fit my needs that doesn't have the terrible driving habits the taco has. As far as looks the '17 F150 is far superior to anything out there IMO. The only towing I plan to do will be our quads which is less than 1500 lbs with gear. I don't plan on any off-roading at least nothing like I put the Bronco through, but occasional getting to the cabin, fishing/hunting spots will be done. Any recommendations on what I should check for, ask about, when I go look and test drive it would be appreciated.
What she will look like-
Thanks!

Hi & welcome! I'm so sorry to hear about your parents. I kinda had a very similar situation last couple years myself, so I can relate. My Mom past last March, but we still have her 08 F150. It's still Mom's truck! I bought my Dad's 16 after he ordered it but wound up in the hospital and accepted retirement.
What motor preference did you have? Just about any of the offerings would fit your needs I think. I'm on my 2nd 3.5 EB. If you have a lead foot it will eat some fuel but they sure are fun! I haven't driven a 2.7 but guys seem to like them here too.
If it's used I'd ask for the service records to make sure it hasn't been neglected.
