Default Wax Applicators

I got some foam wax applicators from AutoGeek and wondering how I should clean them? I tried dawn dish soap to get the black marks out of them, didn't work. Don't know if it's grease or something else, worried about waxing dirt or grease into the paint. Any tips appreciated.

I "accidently" washed some of my cheap sponges in the washer machine to see what would happen and they cleaned all the dirt and sand out of them

I put all my microfiber towel and wax applicators and put them together in the washing machine. Been doing it for many years with no problem.
