Just bought a 2009 F150 Platinum and the Platinum tailgate section looks awful. The standard cleaner that the dealership used did nothing. Is there something out there that can eat away at the grime and buildup that's on there so I can make it look shiny again?

 

Use a high quality detail spray with Clay Bar and a good soft microfiber and it'll look new again.

Or you could try a claybar kit from your local auto parts store.

Use plenty of the detail spray as lubrication to minimize any possible marring.

 

Is the Platty tailgate real metal or is it coated with a clear coat, vinyl clear, etc?

If it's metal, Chemical Guys makes a good metal polish for after you clay it.
