Default Help!!!!!!

It finally happened! Today I had one of my dogs in the bed of my truck and he put some scratches on the rear panel. I had planned to do a major detailing next week including, in order, wash, clay bar, swirl x, polish, wax. All meguiers products. I was thinking of trying some of their scratch remover, but when should I do it, what step?

Also if I can not finish in one day which step should I stop at and pick up the next day? How should I proceed when I do start back, like if I stop after swirl x should I wash and dry before polish? Any help is appreciated! I plan on calling meguiers customer service to get their info.

I would say it all depends on what products your using. If your using ALL Meguiar's Produts then yes consult them for proper technique. I personally would proceed in this sequence, given the scratches are not totally brutal!:

1. Wash Car with Dawn (to strip wax)
2. Clay car with your choice of product (to remove in bedded dirt)
3. Use your random orbital and a bit of Ultimate compound (light abrasive)
4. Once completed, wax your car with quality wax!

What you choose to do in between those steps is your choice really... That's my usualy routine if a scratch brings it's self up!

Good Luck!

it also makes a difference how deep he got into the clearcoat...can your fingernail catch into the scratch? if so then you would need to have that wet sanded...if not, then you should be able to buff that out with a polisher

good luck

I felt the scratch as you mentioned and it is not very deep so it should come out. I am going to call them today to get some info. Thanks

Scratch-X 2.0 is really good stuff for what you have described. My experience is that it can take a few repeated treatments but it does the job if your fingernail doesn't catch in the scratch. The Meg's guys are good source of info. BTW Wal-Mart has the stuff at about $8.50, best price I have seen. Good luck, now have a serious talk with the pooch!

Saturday morning I got everything together to do a wash and wax on my truck. Washed with Meg Gold class, brought inside the shop and clay bared everything(It removed alot of stuff but was not as bad as it seemed), Swirl X entire truck, Meg Gold Polish entire truck, Scratch X hood and panel area, Meg liquid carnuba wax entrie truck. Came out beautiful!! To bad it has rained everyday so no chance to take pics yet. Whole process took about 4-5 hours. Thought it would have taken longer. Just did a section at a time. Will post some after pics when the sun comes back out, wich might be Friday.
