Is there a way when I click a thread, that I would default to: View First Unread?

 

That blue button with the down arrow in front of the thread title should take you to first unread of that thread.

 

As MetalCutter stated, if you're logged in and haven't read new content within a thread then you will see the appear next to the thread title. Clicking on that focuses the browser to the first unread message in that thread:

It literally couldn't be any more clear than it is. It's the button right next to the "View First Unread"
