TOTM separation

I believe that the truck of the month should be separated into different categories such as 2009+, 2004-2008, 1997-2003, and classic. I think that this would make it more fair and that it would make the TOTM more fun. just a suggestion, I understand if there are reasons that this isn't possible to do or you don't feel it should be changed. I just think that it would be a better way to do it and that it would make the TOTM more fun.

Lenn 09-23-2010 07:10 AM

I would agree with you but I dont think that the spread of nominations that we get each month would lend to that. If we tripled the number of TOTM winners, we might actually have the same trucks winning multiple times per year. As it stands right now, to keep the running fair, the same truck can only win once per 12 month time period.

I say that for us guys running trucks from the 2003 back era. There's a few 2009+ guys nominated per month (until they become obtainable to younger people with the "Mod Monster" mindset), ALOT of trucks nominated in the 2004-2008 category (because they're rapidly becoming more obtainable and leaving money in pockets for mods), a significantly less number of 1997-2003 trucks simply because they are starting to age... like milk (hehe, j/k) and then maybe one or two classics nominated per month- if that.

If we had double the amount of nominations and members on this site, that might be a good idea but right now we are a decent sized site but not big enough to have multiple TOTM sections.

That's just my $.02

bobkyle2 09-23-2010 07:15 AM

i was thinking the same lenn.. but then i thought that other member might start running if they run against trucks of the same caliber...as much as i like a 94 model ford most people dont even look at them... and vote for the 2010 model just becouse...... i see where you are coming from

Lenn 09-23-2010 07:45 AM

Yeah, I know its harder for the classic guys... We try to keep the spread as even as we can for the actual candidate trucks. As the trucks get older and older, its gonna be harder and harder to win this competition. The same applies to us 1997-2003 guys.

The way I see it is this. The 2009+ guys have the likelyhood to win since they are new and not much investment is required to make them look better. The 2004-2008 guys are the most likely to win since as stated- they are more obtainable, still stylish, and usually purchased outright so no leins but they're still new enough to warrant modding. The classic guys are the next most likely to win since to even to nominated, you have to have a nice rig, be it a prestine original or restored. Those trucks are hitting the "classic era". Us 1997-2003 guys are in the biggest pickle. Our trucks are being purchased for as little as $2000 and still being used and abused for work trucks and whatnot. Those of us who have the desire to mod, would rather do it to a 2004-2008 model since the newer low mileage 02-03 trucks in 4x4 trim are nearing the price of a higher mileage 04-05 4x4 which (IMHO) is a much superior truck in just about every way. When my generation truck gets old enough to be restored, the table will start to turn in thier favor.

IDK- its not a perfect system but the numbers need to be higher in order for multiple sections to be implimented. I do agree with you both though.

PS- been a while since I've seen ya post Bobkylecawkadoodle.

VanoFord 09-23-2010 10:56 AM

I have to agree about seperating it out, but see your point w/ as few of votes we get. Here is a thought... what if you just do nominations for certain era's. Like its really unfair going up against 2 09's w/ my 2wd 06. lol. I should have been left out and a 3rd 09-10 should have taken my place. I think if you get a majority of one era for truck of the month, that it should be that era against that era alone. like you said, everyone wants a platinum... it should trump any/all trucks. just my $.02... still an honor to get nominated in my opinion.

Lenn 09-23-2010 02:06 PM

I see what you are saying Van... but again, if we evenly break it up between generations, there's gonna be 9 nominations for the 2009+ corral, 23 for the 2004-2008 guys, 12 for the 1997-2003 guys and maybe 4 for the classic guys.

Its not the number of members rides that we lack... its the number of nominations for the older generation trucks. As I stated before, I would hate to see the same beautiful 1987 F150 Custom winning each time that generation is up for TOTM just simply because thats one of the three or four that are viewed as "Nomination worthy" by thier peers.

Ultimately, its Jon and Nathan's call but I've been thinking about this alot actually. This is a rough copy of what I was thinking and peicing together as a starting point for breathing some new life into the TOTM competition.

The only fair way I could see breaking it down is to do something of a theme for each month.

For instance:

Jan- 2009+
Feb- 2004-2008
Mar- 1997-2003
Apr- Classics Month
May- Service Member Month
Jun- 2wd only
Jul- 4wd only
Aug- Harley/Lightning/Saleen Beauties
Sep- Heavy Hitters (Heavily Modded)
Oct- Stock Beauties (No more than tires)
Nov- Inner Beauty ("Ugly" trucks)
Dec- Free For All!!!!!

rubbinsracin 09-23-2010 02:33 PM

Maybe rotating? like Lenn says, except then at the end they can pick like a truck of the month for December and have a truck of the year w/ all of the previous winners to be in the running?

because as been said its tough to compete against the Platinum....that most aspire to have and try to make our trucks to be

Turkey Hunter 09-23-2010 02:48 PM

I like lenns idea.

VanoFord 09-23-2010 03:00 PM

i like lenn's idea too. even though each only get 1 month for the Gen, there are other months that any Gen can fall into, i.e. just tires, heavy mod, ugly trucks, etc. Maybe we could have a minimum post/member requirement before you are nominated as well. This would weed out those that just hop on and never hear from again, as well as show a true gratitude to those that actually post up and help out consistently, w/ good advice (any can post up tons of stuff, but whether its good or not is the curveball). Like Bucko should be nominated Just for this reasoning alone, yet he never will cuz his truck is a "plain jane" and no one nominates that kind of truck anyway.

Lenn 09-23-2010 03:57 PM

I nominated him last month...

As mods, you'll probably never see our vehicles in the running unless it is prior to us being staff. Its a perceived conflict of interest thing.

lol. so being a MOD negates all the work one does to their vehicle? that my friend is comical. IMO, it should make them even more susceptible to being nominated, being that they mod their vehicle to their taste, and help ALL of us mod ours when we have questions and get stuck. Maybe you guys just need a designated "Thank you Moderator Day" or something lol.

rubbinsracin 09-23-2010 04:28 PM

maybe eliminate the ugly tuck or something and just vote for fav mod truck! (worth any brownie points?:brows:)

Nah, its not really a set in stone rule or anything but its more of an understanding. Also, our trucks don't really ever get nominated.... I know why mine doesn't. Haha!

General Lee 09-23-2010 10:25 PM

I understand that's the answer that I thought that I would get. I think you have the right idea with the rotating though. Is that a written rule or is that just understood? I just suggested this because I haven't noticed a 97-03 winning TOTM and because of Vano going up against two 09s. The only thing that I don't like about your rotating list is that I think it should rotate between only 2009+, 2004-2008, 1997-2003, classics, and free-for-all, so that you don't have only 1 chance a year to become TOTM. If this is put into place I think that the 3 trucks that are nominated one month should not be nominated the next month that their era comes around so that every one gets an equal chance. But that is just my opinion

Just call me Sean 09-23-2010 11:07 PM

All of your trucks suck. Mine's a real truck and is used as such. Why doesn't someone nominate mine?

I think that is an excellent idea. If you left out the "free-for-all" you could do every group 3x a year.

General Lee 09-24-2010 11:25 AM

^^I could care less about the free for all I just threw that in there but thanks i think thats the way it should be done

This. I recommends it. Or something similiar to it.

06Screwloose 09-24-2010 04:13 PM

I'm fairly new to the forum but by reading the threads.....lowered trucks just don't get the respect they deserve....Why not do lifted totm, stock totm and lowered totm? That way everybody has a chance....Just my .02...

Lenn 09-24-2010 04:48 PM

^ True.... I completely forgot about them. I'm not trying to not show anyone love, but that's just something I typed up real quick.

06Screwloose 09-24-2010 06:00 PM

I'm not lowered yet but I understand where they are coming from...We even have ppl saying in the lowered section,"why would you drop a 4x4?"' uhh because he wants too....you paying his truck note?...I know there are alot of nice looking 4x4s and lifted trucks....There are alot of well taken care of stock(with wheels) trucks....And there are alot of nice looking lowered trucks.....3 classes lifted, stock and lowered....That way everybody is happy....

GATORB8 09-24-2010 06:08 PM

Could probably be accomplished by changing 2wd and 4wd categories to Sport and Offroad.

06Screwloose 09-24-2010 06:09 PM

I totally agree....

bobkyle2 09-24-2010 08:05 PM

i dont think that would work becouse there is lifted 2wd trucks .. and theres not way a 2wd truck is going to win over a 4wd in this forum...

Lenn ive got internet back in my office so im on like all hours of the night again sunday thru thursday... and some on the weekends (someoen that lives by my cabin got wireless and my laptop will pick it up...lmao)

06Screwloose 09-24-2010 09:34 PM

That's true too....ok....Lifted totm and lowered totm....if it's got a lifting spacer,it's considered lifted/lowering shackle it's lowered...

General Lee 09-25-2010 12:57 AM

I have nothing against lowered trucks but I don't think thats a good idea because the newer lifted trucks will crush a classic or 97-03 truck. I just got an idea. have a TOTM in each category. instead of having a category for just TOTM put a TOTM thread in each section, 09+, 04-08, 97-03, classic, lowered that way everyone has their own TOTM and I think that way their will be more votes because each section has atleast 100+ views at one time rather than the TOTM category which I'm not sure how many it usually has, but not over 100 at one time. I think that will give the TOTM more votes and give people equal chances to be TOTM and no one will complain about their kind of truck not getting a chance

THEPRODJECT01 09-25-2010 01:03 AM

hopefully things will happen, it would be awsome if there was truck of the month in different categorys, so you can see the differences in looks and mods with the same body style

06Screwloose 09-25-2010 01:24 AM

I agree....I just wanna make sure the lowered trucks are included....It would make sense to include all eras of trucks like General Lee stated.I know it would be kind of a hassle with that many TOTM,trying to nominate and collect votes. But we are all here for 1 reason.....We LOVE our FORD trucks....not matter what it looks like...I know my truck can't compete with some of these trucks but it be nice to atleast have a chance....

Just call me Sean 09-25-2010 01:56 AM

I don't really give a sh!t because my truck can't compete. My generation truck will never have a fair shot anyways because it's too old. They already put a lot of effort in TOTM, something they don't even HAVE to do. It's a bonus perk and if people aren't mature enough to deal with how it's handled then tough cookies. It's for fun, it's not like they're giving out prize money. Enjoy it and stop whining.

06Screwloose 09-25-2010 02:06 AM

That's your opinion....Thanks, but I don't remember asking for it.

bobkyle2 09-25-2010 02:12 AM

06Screwloose 09-25-2010 02:42 AM

First of all....I've seen your truck...The only TOTM you would win is for the biggest piece of sh!t.Second....I saw the trailer behind the truck so that tells me what kind of person I'm dealing with....Third...you call me a baby? Atleast I don't have a cartoon as my avatar.....I've seen you post before...Basically you say sh!t before you think about what you say...But after seeing the truck and trailer..I wouldn't expect any less from you....

:D much better atmosphere i love you guys

cw8307 09-25-2010 04:57 AM

I look at this issue a couple different ways and I have an 09....Here's why!

Point 1: Last month I got spanked by an 06 and an 09 so I don't think we should worry about years.

Point 2: Perhaps years shouldn't matter rather money invested?? Not going to happen but if we both have $2K to invest then we would determine the "winner" by who invested their money the best way. Again, not going to happen but it's an idea at least. Perhaps that will keep an 04 with wheels from going against a 2010 with 70K invested.

Point 3...it's an online competition so in the end what does it really matter? All the trucks that I have seen go up for TOTM would look great in my driveway. If anything, those who need votes should have spent more time networking online. A lot of Vano's votes in Sept 2010 came from guys he personally helped so hats off to Vano for spreading his F-150 knowledge to our counterparts.

Now, before people start cursing me it is 5 am so forgive me for sharing my opinion while tired hahah! Goodnight!

Lenn 09-25-2010 09:32 AM

Ah man... You guys actually cleaned this thing up yourselves. I was sitting here reading the useless banter posts whilest foaming at the mouth at the thought of the "post delete" option and the ban hammer by my side.

I'm glad you guys swayed the way that threads don't normally go... working themselves out. To Sean and 06screwloose (insert actualy name there), thanks.

General Lee 09-25-2010 11:01 AM

ok so..... as for sean.......sorry your truck probably wont win TOTM mine probably won't eaither.....I'm just throwing out some ideas that I thought would help better the cite because I like looking at the TOTM and would like to see the cite grow larger, I tell people all the time to join the cite I'm doing what I can to get more members and I wanted to see if there was something else I could do to help....so I'm sorry but I'd rather not listen to you telling me to stop complaining while at the same time your complaining about how your truck won't make it. that's your business that I'd rather not listen too and I'd rather not have an argument about it. as for screwloose I understand were your coming from but you have 16 comments.... alittle too early to start arguing with someone who has almost 10,000 comments. Glad y'all worked it out

Just call me Sean 09-25-2010 12:35 PM

I don't really care if my truck won't win TOTM, I still love it. I don't need reassurance from others that my truck is cool by winning TOTM. My statement wasn't directed at anyone in particular, it was just getting on my nerves about everyone wanting an expanded TOTM when what you are getting is already a bonus. You guys are stressing over nothing. Why do you need other people to tell you your truck is cool so badly? I know mine is cool and I bet I'm the only one that thinks that, and I don't really care what others think of my truck. We don't have to argue about my opinion, but I listened to yours and now you get to listen to mine. I did wait a good long time before I finally decided to put in my two cents. People sure don't like reality checks. Thanks for the input though, and I bet your truck has a better chance of winning than mine.

Lenn, I was trying to keep it pretty light. You've seen (and deleted) plenty of my arguements so you should be able to tell that. :D I hold no grudges, I've done the same crap myself at times.

General Lee 09-26-2010 01:28 PM

ok I understand and I'm glad that you have your opinion and we have ours. thanks for your input
