Default Is It Worth It

to pay for the spray-in bedliner/undercoating and Scotchguard treatment for the interior? For $750, my dealer is going to take my truck to the local Line X shop for the bed/undercoat and then the dealer (I believe) treats the interior. With the interior, I have always thought these treatments are more a warranty against accidents to the seats and upholstery than an effective treatment. It sounds like this is a good deal because I called a Line X dealer here in Kansas City and they would charge @ $440 for the bed alone. Any thoughts on if the interior and undercoating are worth the dough (I'm getting the bed done regardless)?

Scotchgard costs about 5 bucks a can, 1-2 cans per vehicle. Undercoating is a bit more expensive, they will use about 40 dollars in material. The dealer probably gets the bedliner done at a cost of 250-300. It's up to you as to whether it's really worth it.

Spray in liner is great. Would not let dealer spray anything inside my truck. I also think undercoating is a bad idea given the materials and processes used to produce new cars and trucks today. Undercoating probaly adds to rust problems. Just my 2 cents.

Undercoating is also not worth it if you have any chance of welding or any kind of attachment to the frame. Personally, completely depends on what kind of climate you live in. Undercoating is nice in areas that use road salt and beach areas, you don't have to be as through when washing the under carriage to prevent rust. Spray in bedliners are great, just make sure you get one with a lifetime warranty.

As a personal vehicle advisor for our local garage, I would say that putting in Line X is definintly a great idea, as far as under coating, its really up to the individual and where you are located. It does work, but I think it has to be done every so many years, other wise its pretty much a waste. I used to sell more undercoating than any one at our dealership and can sell it...as far as a paint protector or an interior protector, again I have sold alot of jobs, but in all honesty do not think its worth it. Especially paint protector, it seems like that collects more dust than any thing....

You guys may have just saved me three hundred bucks or so, not sure. I was going to get the interior treated simply as a warranty against any stains or rips in the leather, but the SUV I had prior to my truck had leather and I had no trouble with it over 6 years of use (I do take pretty good care of my stuff). As for the undercoating, I had heard it can make the ride quieter, but I haven't noticed the ride being very loud. I do live in an area that can get rough winters (the last two have been brutal), so salt is a concern, but again, I take pretty good car of my stuff. I am probably going to slap on an extended warranty (5 and 125k) within 12 months, so I can put the saved money towards that and that will cover any rust problems for five years I would think.

Thanks for the advice...I owe you all a beer.
