won't start
Hey all
I am new to this forum, so I don't know whether I am posting under the correct category, but I am sure it will find its' way to the correct area.
I have a 1989 F-150 custon 2WD "plain Jane" that I bought new, and it has been a very good truck.
It is an I-6 with 207K on it, manual transmission, no air, like I said just a Plain Jane. The motor has never had a wrench on it, likewise the transmission.
However, I did have to replace the clutch, and have found a problem.
When going between 48 to 57 MPH I could sense a noticeable vibration, or resonance, if you will. Below or above these specific speeds the vibes or resonance is not as noticeable, but I can still feel it in the gear shift ****.
The other day, I got in it to go to work, and it wouldn't hit a lick, even though I had driven it the day before and it started and ran with no problems, except for the "resonace" at the speeds I have previously mentioned. Just for the record, it was REALLY cold when I got this "not start" problem.
Thinking the battery went bad on me I bought a new battery. (has a new alternator) No go.
I then put on a new fender mounted relay.. NO GO.
So my question to you guys is, what do I do next??????
I am thinking maybe it is either the clutch safety switch or the starter went out on me, but I can't imagine the starter just going "bad" overnight. They usually give some kind of indication they are not quite "right."
Please give me your feedback on what your ideas are so I can go from there.
Will be very appreciative of anything I can find out, and if you think it might be the safety switch, please let me know how to replace it.

hello there Welcome to the site....
i would make sure your truck is in nutreal...with emergency brake on or chaulk the wheels....turn the key on and jump the selenoid across the 2 big bolts with a screw driver or wreck something metal...and see if it will fire up

Do you have a volt meter? If you don't, you could get a pretty nice one for about 25 buck. Test your solenoid, with someone turning the key and see if it's getting power out. I'm willing to bet you just have a bad ground. It has to be something simple like that. A VM will be your best friend in this situation.
