Winter's coming... Bed weight solution thread.

So, to summarize some of the responses so far...
1) Don't need it/stay at home/take it easy/ go slower. Umm, no. I need to be able to travel in severe conditions on challenging roads. If when tweaked, the F150 can not handle it, it will be replaced.
2) Sandbags cinder blocks, possibly with boards to hold them in place. Doesn't meet my requirements for rock-solid weight stability on mountain switchbacks and maximum use of my covered bed.
3) Let it pack with snow. Good idea, if you don't need the bed in the winter. I do.
4) Steel plate, barbell plates. Also a good idea.. But steel is also pretty expensive if you don't already have a ready supply of scrap, and is hard to secure. Steel barbel plates are $2+/pound, too expensive. Sand filled barbell plates might be worth looking into.
So any other clever ideas for how to weight the bed securely and cleanly, and how much weight to add?

I don't think that throwing six pairs of skis, boot bags, poles, etc. on top of it would work out well.

ShurTrax super tough vinyl chamber is UV resistant and reinforced with a woven nylon mesh. That chamber encloses die-electrically welded baffles restrained with relief holes to prevent surging on cornering, stopping and starting.
Haul up to 500 lbs. (227 kg) on top of ShurTrax. (Take care not to puncture the vinyl, or add a sheet of plywood and just load up.)
