Default window motor fail

so the driver's door window motor is made of fail in my 94 302. well not the motor actually, I can hear it buzzing and going so I assume the motor itself works, but rather the gear connecting it to the big quarter circle gear connected to the window. I seem to recall someone else having a similar problem and it was just a little plastic gear they needed to replace but I can't find the thread for the life of me. On top of that the window motor is held in by rivets not bolts (whose idea was that? seriously?) so I can't get it out short of causing damage any helpful ideas?

Those motors have three plastic bushings that transfer the power from the electric motor to the gear that engages the scissor lift for the window. the sell the rebuild kits in the help sections at any part house, i think they might made of polyurethane these days. I had to rebuild both of mine on my 94, been working ever since. Hardest part is getting motor out, i think i drilled out the rivets and riveted back in.

so the rivets are pretty much the only way then? think it would be possible to use some bolts or something when I reinstall it? in case I have to get the motor out again, and also I don't have a rivet gun or whatever is used to install rivets

your luck is about as good as mine. i think im going to relocate my seats. i would get a lot more use out of them if i mounted them on the core support instead of in the cab. anyway, drill the rivits out, fix whatever is wrong then use small nuts and bolts to replace the rivets. just make sure they fill the holes they drilled for the rivets to keep everything lined up well.

The bushings as you know are plastic and they dont last long spinning around the gear. What you need to do when you get the motor out and the broken bushings out take 3 1/4 nuts and use them in place of the plastic bushings. Do not forget to put grease around the nuts and geat before you put the cover back on the motor.

you can use some bolts just make sure they are some pan head's so no interference of course. I don't know about using nuts, if they have been working from 94 till now I think fixing them with what the OEM requires would be fine.

They do sell threaded rivets which will accept a machine screw. The problem with this approach is that the motor may loosen up from vibration and the truck itself bouncing around. Thread lock would probably help but.....

Depends on the threadlocker used. The blue stuff should be good enough. One can try the red, but most likely it will render the screws impossible to remove without drilling/punching them out.

so this is what I have so far. incidentally the person who designed this thing should be kicked, it was almost impossible to get out of the door panel so where are these three plastic mystery bushings I keep hearing about
