will a cold air intake do anything worthwhile by itself
Please respond if you actually know something vs a guess. If i put an s&b (k&n, ect) air intake in my 05 f150 (5.4)... will it really improve performance and mileage IF....thats the only mod i make. i've been told the engine is like a vacuum...how can more airflow help unless you upgrade the exhaust? and if you upgrade air and exhaust then it must be custom tuned to allow more fuel. Unless you go the whole 9 yards i've been told it doesnt help anything. well i dont know and i wanted to add an air intake but not if its a waste of money???please help...
no it want be a waste of money but if your not gonna do the rest why not just get like a k&n replacement that drops into you factory air box and do the gots modd and they was one guy on here did a custom intake ill find the link to that and post it for you it would be alo better than a air intake and alot cheaper
If the only mod to your ride is a cold air intake system, you will get no significant increase in power or fuel mileage. In my estimation, the systems are a waste of money.
Power is a function of weight of fuel consumed per unit time. A cold air system will give a small, but probably not noticeable increase in that function.
No improvment when done by itself. Bottom line. Furthermore your performace might even decrease depending what type of intake you get....Some aftermarket intake systems will acutally pull HOT air from inside your engine compartment. Where as the stock intake pulls cool dense air from inside the wheel well.
Look up a "GOTTS" intake mod. This will save you alot of money by just removing the restrictive silencer and placing a K&N filter in your stock intake. (Which would make it pretty much the same as any after market kit.)
Although if you ever do by an aftermarket intake, I would recomend you buy one which is sealed from the engine compartment and pulls in cool air from else where.
Hope this helps!

Here is a link to the GOTTS intake mod. I think I'll do it this weekend.

Me too, I went with the K&N drop in filter for my air box. I have noticed a little extra pep in acceleration since installing the filter.
