I hate to say it but I think the Bow Tie will win this one. The 351W in the truck was designed for torque not HP.

As for this being a street racing thread.... I don't see any where that he OP mentioned a street race. Maybe he is considering challenging a friend and wants some incite as to the outcome before the race. I will however concede that it could conceiveably go south. Thanks for the warning.

the Chevy will win hands down and by a country mile...

From the factory Ford retarded ALL camshafts of engines except the 302 5.0L from the early 70s until the modular motors int he 90s...

GM never did...

they make the same horsepower and torque (or close there in) but because of the GMs Advanced valve events the engine will Rate quicker thus pulling harder...

Plus the 97 maybe a possible Vortec with Fast Burn heads...only further adding to the combustion efficiency of the engine...

stock for stock the GM will win...

but built...the 351 may win...the max the 350 can go on the stock block stroked is 388 cubes...where as the 351 can go 406 you could really build a pretty wicked 406windsor...

although its very easy to get a 383 GM in the 10s on mild mods...they are torque monsters...

^^^ nicely said

If I wanted a truck solely for acceleration and speed it would be a gm every time.

Stock for stock Chevy never had anything that could take the Gen II Lightning.
