My Cooper STT Maxx tires, I had for 5 years. And somewhere around 60,000ish miles on them I would say before I sold them a few weeks ago. New ones (Konati Trail Hog) going on tomorrow.

Tire rack has a lot of interesting videos that illustrate the difference between that ability of a tire to bring a modern vehicle with ABS to a stop in the rain. Its really interesting stuff and the reason I buy tires a lot sooner nowadays than I did in my 20s

I replace mine before they get to the wear bars. In my thinking, performance deteriorates enough by the time you hit the wear bar that it’s just not worth it to me.

I found the video you are talking about I think -

Very interesting. I know I can start to feel this when my tires get to around 5/32' but had no idea how the stopping action degrades from there on down. I think I will stick with my 5/32" rule. I usually end up past the 8 year mark before I get to 5/32" anyway.

Going to look at some more of these videos now.

Lincoln's head upside down in the thread. If you can see the top of his head, replace.

For $3 and change you can have a proper tire depth gauge.
