Default Wheel security locks

The wheels on my truck have a locked security cover over the lug nuts to prevent the wheel from getting ripped off, great. However I do not have the key to get them off, bad. the locks are the type that takes what I think are called barrel keys, the key has a short tube that has tabs positioned on the outside to mate with the tumbler in the lock. How hard is this type of key to make if all you have is the lock? The Wheels where made by Progressive and are no longer made. The company is one of the many outfits that California ran out of business because of their environmental laws. I really don't want to have to destroy these covers to get the wheels off they are a very nice looking set.

My wheels do not have this type of lock on them, but I think I know what you are referring to. They are the same type of keys used to open vending machines and those Krypton U-bolt bicycle locks. I think they are difficult to duplicate. You may, I said may, be able to get one thru the stealership. They might be able to get the required info from your vin# and can order one for you. Otherwise, you could check with a local locksmith, but I think you will find it expensive no matter how you get the key.

Problem solved, called the former owner and he told me the key is in the glove box. I am going to take it down to the local lock shop I have dealt with for most of the last 30 years and see if they can make copies of it. having just one key just doesn't hack it.

you can also take a bick pen, pull the guts out, and jam the with pen body in to the lock and turn, it usually works like a charm. Or if the pen is to small, heat it up with a lighter a bit first.

Now, I thought you would have given the truck the once-over when you first brought it home. I know that's what I did, I opened everything up and looked inside just to see what was there. I found a harness to wire a brake controller and what I believe is a tailgate lock, though I have yet to figure out how to use it... Even had the original owner's manual along with the monthly maintenance guide.

The key was in an envelope which I never looked in.
