Default What constitutes a custom order

Hi all. Newbie here. I'm trying to understand exactly what qualifies as a custom order of an F150. Online Ford reps tell me there no such thing as a custom order. Dealership sales people say "it depends". For example I was told by a dealer that I could "custom order" a Lariat or even a King Ranch with cloth seats, because the standard is leather. If anyone can tell me exactly whats allowable/possible with a "custom orders" I'd love to get an understanding.

To me a custom order is a truck you sit down and order to what you want in it!

One on one at a dealer. Choosing all of your options then having that truck built just for you. Tracking its life from inception until you put the keys in for the first time

A custom order is just as it sounds - an order of a truck to your specifications, placed through the dealer, and then built according to that order.
The window sticker will be green (as opposed to the regular window stickers, which are blue) and will state "SPECIAL ORDER."
You are limited to the configurations Ford offers, and the Build and Price tool on their website will help you work through what possible configurations are available. I am not sure that you can get cloth seats in a Lariat or King Ranch, but the Build and Price tool would let you know that.

custom order AKA special order= ordering something that the dealer does not have on the lot. You are still limited to option packages though, can't get a lariat or KR with cloth or an XLT with leather.

You can't go down an option list and check only what you want anymore, limited to the packages and a few stand alone options. easiest thing to do is go to Ford.com and toy around with the build / price tool.

Thanks for the response. So in your view, the dealer / sales manager that told me in person that I could order a King Ranch with cloth seats was misleading me?

Perfect definition. The picture shows the Special Order for my 2016 Platty. I had to order because there was not a RubyRed/Brunello available west of the Mississippi at the time, and none in the whole US without a moonroof, as I wanted. I would have ordered a Limited, but Ford would not/could not do that, even if I paid for the moonroof and they just did not install it. So don't hold your hopes up for upgrading a lower trim, with some parts from an upper trim. There are a whole bunch of threads on here about upgrading their cloth seats to a Katzkin etc. with after market leather.

So have your dealer make you your order, sign it and keep a copy, and start waiting.

This is a question for your dealer.
Good luck.

Custom, special, simply playing with words.

You have three ways to get a vehicle.

1) Dealer has it on their lot.
2) Dealer trades with another dealer for what you want. Max of a 400 mile "trading area", and whether your dealer will go get one or the dealer who has it will release it is up to each of them, they don't have to.
3) Ordering a vehicle exactly the way you want it, if such a vehicle is possible to be made.

There is an F-150 Order Guide. This document shows exactly what is possible to be made. The Build section of the Ford site SHOULD allow you to build what is in the order guide, but in the end the order guide is the defining guide. Can you get a King Ranch with cloth seats? Only if Ford allows it. That would be in the order guide.

Here is a link to the Order Guide for a 2018: https://www.f150forum.com/f118/2018-...1-18-a-409565/ It has been updated on 6/1 (this is a 3/1 version). You cannot get cloth seats in a King Ranch as noted by others. There is no type of order that is going to get cloth seats in your King Ranch. King Ranch is designed to have leather seats. It's a luxury pickup.

Here is the link for the 2019 Order Guide: https://www.f150forum.com/f118/2019-...2/#post5877899
