Default weight of quad on tail gate

hello everyone, I just picked up my first pick up a 2011 f150 FX4 ecoboost ( love it). I have a 2010 kawasaki brute force I was wondering if I put it in the bed and the back tires of the quad are on the taligate can it damage the gate or it can handle the weight. I have a 6,5 foot box. I looking foward to hearing from all of you. Thanks

I do the same with my Kingquad 700 and travel about 25 kms on wood roads and had no problem YET, there must be a certain weight that is allowed though!!! Not saying this is the right thing to do but we have no choice with the size of the quads or trailer it which I hate!!!

Should be fine. Just change the cables every few years. They get weak at the bend point. I had one break on my ranger with my prairie 700 but the other held.

I wouldnt haul on your tailgate, or atleast very rarely and short distances. I cant find it, and maybe it was on the other F150 site, but someone had their hinge welds on the tailgate bust, and the cables can be weak. I made a support that comes out of the receiver, extends past the open tailgate, rises up above the level of the tailgate and has ramps that extend to the bed of the truck to keep all weight off of the tailgate. I also have the 5'5" box so I am working with less area. Here is a photo, not great, but I think you can see the "bed extender" underneath the Renegade.

The guy with the broken welds had a full dress road bike on it, skinny tire right in the middle.
I'd probably be more comfortable with a quad, the load would be spread out more evenly.
I believe I read here somewhere that the load rating on the tailgate is 350lbs.
(may be talking out my butt, as I cannot find the quote, but it sounds about right..)
If it were, me, i'd probably do it as long as the back tires rested on the front part of the tailgate, and the quad weighed lees than 500 lbs.
But that's me.....

One more precaution I would try is having 2x10 under each side the full length of the quad, that should relieve some of the pressure.

Also, how big are quads getting these days?! I could load my 2000 honda foreman into the 6' bed on my mini truck and another 4" would have let me close the tailgate

I was surprised to see you guys talking about having to leave your tailgate down to haul your quad. I currently dont have a quad but the last one i had was a raptor (much smaller). I just looked up the length of the Grizzly that my dad has and it too is longer than a 6.5 foot bed by 3 inches. I would think the engineers would keep them at 6.5 feet so they can fit into trucks with the tailgate up.

I don't understand this, we have been doing this since the beginning of trucks. Putting dirtbikes, 4 wheelers and whatever sitting on the tail gate and nothing has ever happened. Why all of a sudden do I keep seeing these posts, is the quality of the new tailgates really something to be desired? Because every truck I have owned I have had my street bikes, commercial lawn mowers, 4 wheelers and god knows what else hang off the back of the tailgate and I never thought twice about it. Why would they make an extension of the bed that folds down weaker than the rest of the bed? You wouldn't be able to drive **** up into the bed if that was the case. My bet is that the tailgate is the strongest part of your bed and all of you guys are just scared because you spent 40k on a friggen truck. It's still a truck!
