Default Warranty Void

Ive seen people asking all over the internet "Will this void my warrant?"

So instead of taking posts one on one Ill post this here

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/busi...#Magnuson-Moss

basically it says your warranty cannot not be voided due to after market parts unless the after market part caused the malfunction

Having dealt with dealers and the aftermarket vendors, the dealer can basically say what they want when it comes to voiding issues. Heck, often times the vendors will turn on each other to debate repair costs.

Consider this more beating the horse.

But it seems they can deny warranty work, stating it is the aftermarket part that caused the failure. Then instead of it being on the service dept in verifying the part caused the failure, it's usually left to the consumer to prove the part did not cause the failure.

Negative, the dealership must prove the part caused that failure. On my 05, all of a sudden i heard a major rattle in my motor. I took it in...but I forgot to take my superchips program out...When they checked it, they said the tuner caused the problem. I told them it was impossible. I took the tuner in, set it back to stock, and the rattle continued. They still wanted to void my warranty. I asked what the problem was...They didnt know because they hadnt even opened it up yet! I told them well open it up and see what wrong then we'll talk about warranty. They did. Some bolt came loose and some factory installed bracket was rattling around. Needless to say my warranty was still in tact.

The fact of the matter is...every dealer WANTS to void your warranty! It costs them a lot of money every time someone comes in with a warranty issue.

It does not cost them money, they just don't make as much as customer pay.

Doesnt cost them money???? How do you figuer that?

1) Every min my truck sits at a work station costs them money
2) They have to pay the techs to work on the truck, even if they are not working on it...
Then there is the paper work you sign. those papers cost money, the cashier or secretary has to file those papers etc...It costs them lots of money.

True, but if found under warranty, Ford foots the bill. If found to be outside of the warranty, the customer foots the bill. Not like the service dept is paying out of pocket for these costs.

If the truck isn't in their bay, the techs aren't getting paid for or by your truck service. They are usually being paid for the vehicle currently in their station.

These costs are included within your service bill, or covered by the warranty bill sent to Ford. This is partly why they much rather have the customer pay, as the cost/payment will be higher than a service covered by Fords warranty.

My wife works at a dealership. I have been working in shops and dealers since I was 12. I MIGHT have a clue as to what happens. IT does not cost them money to have your truck sitting there even if they provide a rental. Ford covers the rental.

They do not pay the tech when he is not working on your truck. The techs clock in and out of a ticket so they know how much time a tech has in a vehicle.

The paperwork is negligable and covered in the shop supplies.

All of this is covered by Ford/Chevy/Dodge?toyota whatever.

It is more of a pain dealing with the manufacturer. It can cost the dealer money if they deny the warranty claim. That is why they want to say an aftermarket part voided the warranty. If its found by the Manufacturer that there was a modification and they deny the claim it costs the dealer money. That is the only way it will cost them money.
