Default Warranty Question

Hey guys,

First post so go easy on me

Just spoke to my neighbour, she has a 2008 XLT, leased, bought new.
Her transmission just blew. Truck had the warranty till 60,000 km.

Get this she is 60,500 km. Dealership is refusing to fix it. Wants $5000.
Alternatively, they are offering her a 2010 new truck and will take back the leased truck.

Anyone here had similar warranty problem? Please help thanks.

Go to another dealer first. If that fails, ask to speak to the Regional Service rep. If that fails too, contact the Ford Customer Service Center.

Next step is letter to the local paper. If everything fails, then get an A/M transmission (will be a lot cheaper than the stealership).

The bottom line is that its off warranty so why expect it to be covered?
Thats like a gallon of milk going sour a month after the expiration date. Would you expect the store to give you another gallon for free then?

Thanks Shotgun, will take these suggestions to her

Personally I have a 2000 Accord, with similar transmisson problem. But Honda had extended transmission waranty to 7 years, 100,000 on my model. I was hoping similar situation with F150.

But anyways, will ask her to call service rep.

I agree. But cars are not made to break down few miles after warranty. As warranty is there so that people don't keep cars for 30 years and keep coming back.

Car manufacturers know when they screw up some models. And in that case, its only goodwill for them to fix it, warranty or not, just like my Honda, in which case people filled a lawsuit.

According to http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pub.../08frdwa3e.pdf

the powertrain warranty is 5/60k miles.

Who is telling her 60,000km?

Shotgun, we're up in Ontario, so it is km here.

I double checked with her, it is 60,000 km on her lease.

I suppose if she was in States, it would be still under warranty.

What a rip off, same truck, same company, more money as our dollar is lower, but less warranty. But thats another story.

They only fix stuff like this if theres enough of an issue for a recall. If one out of 100,000 has a bad tranny its not a big enough issue for them to repair it at no cost.

Since the issue isnt very common its probably just an issue with that particular truck and not a design flaw.

Sucks that this happened, but as stated earlier, its tough to expect warranty work to be done after the warranty is up, regardless of how close it is. Sadly that's the nature of the beast...Gives the dealership grounds to say too bad so sad.

On another note...Why doesnt she just take them up on their offer to turn in that truck and get the 2010? assuming this is without any out of pocket expense to her...but I imagine thats out of the question. If I were her I would say yeah, I will turn this one in and get the 2010 if there is no out of pocket expense for me.
