Default vibration at 40-70 MPH???

Okay, I have only had my truck since October, but this really bugs me. When you hit 40-70, the steering wheel shakes pretty bad, to the point where I need 2 hands to handle it. I have read from misc. sites that others have the same problem and Ford knows about it, but has not done anything yet. It's real annoying, and I have already replaced the stock tires, and brakes, and even other parts but the vibe is still there! Any suggestions??
I love my truck, but if I cannot fix this, then I am going to get rid of it.

have your tires checked for broken belt and or see if your tires need balanced, this may be the problum. did you have your tranny checked or serviced? that might also be the problum. hope this helps a little.

jack the front end off ot the ground, and see if you can move the tires; wiggle them. and if they move around, replace the parts that have play in them.

it could also be that fact that your tires are not ballenced properly.

most of the time those big chrome rims dont use the lead weights on the lip of the rim, but they use stick on weights on the inside of the rim, and they are not as accurate (usually just put in the middle, not the inside or outside of the rim like the led weights) and they can fall off allot easier. so your better off getting them reballanced, the weights might have fallen off, and it would be as simple as getting them reballanced.

good luck

I think this is the most current TSB that sounds like your issue, I hope this helps
Did it do it before the new rims were installed?

The vibe was there before I put on the aftermarket wheels, and I have had the wheels balanced and aligned after putting them on. I will try a few other things, and see if it fixes the problem, otherwise, I have been talking to a local Ford dealership about possibly resolving the issue in a different way. WhiteCrystal, thanks for the TSB info, I am going to pass it to my husband and we will try a few things out.

When our 99 was new it did the exact same thing. We took it in numerous times and they could never find anything wrong. Someone suggested it might be the brakes sticking a bit. So I was told to romp on it- hit the brakes. Then do this again in reverse. It Worked ! ..vibration gone- It still on occasion did this but by pulling into a pull out I could fix it pretty quick.

Default Shakes

Hi ! I'm new to the Fourms,
Mine is doing this now. It's a 2004 with 30k miles on it. It comes and goes. It shakes so bad the wippes start to bounceoff the windshield.
It's in the shop now. I took it there yesterday and it was doing it as I was driving there, and it figures it wouldn't do it during a test drive with the service guy in the truck. They checked the tire balance and mentioned something about an ABS vacuum problem. They said Ford would not let them just put parts into since it's still und warranty.
Anyone else heard of this??

Mike
