Theyre not really that bad if theyre the right kind. Generally the aluminum ones look like crap though.
Ill admit to having a fiberglass cap on my '87 Ranger and an aluminum cap on my '93 S10 but I bought them cheap and only used them in the winter to keep the snow out.
My current truck has a soft tonneau cover.

since this is about Ugly Upgrades...
1) Whip antennas
2) "Truck nut" sacks hanging from the bumper (just looks nasty going down the road)
3) Stupid, ****ty sounding smokers on a truck (stacks through the bed)
4) Blacked out headlights and tail lights on certain colors of trucks
5) the front of a truck all jacked up with the back of one sitting low like it has a load of schit in the bed (commonly refered to as a "level lift" with cranked torsion bars)
I could keep going, but there is a start IMHO. All of which look worse than a stylish, color matched camper shell on a truck. Camper shells add utility options for those who use a truck for more than tall loads that can endure weather.
