I've had the aussie for a couple years. I don't remember how many miles. I did install myself and It was pretty straight forward aside from having to grind the axles down a little bit.

beakie, I wasn't impling you meant those things. Just that, That's what I got out of my research before I locked it up.

As for winter driving that when I noticed it the least ha ha. I've heard the auto lockers in short wb 4x4 brings the suck but with a pickup its not the case.

Well guys i seem to have a whole nother issue now.

So last night a friend called me to come pull him out. I got there and hooked everything up and got him pulled out. I was in 4x4 LOW and it was a fairly easy pull. I was kind of on slush and ice and snow and managed to get him out. Right as a got him out the built in display in the dash that shows the temperature and stuff like that beeped and said transmission malfunction. Right away my stomach dropped because im 18 and know it will be alot of money to pay for a new tranny. I was still pulling but i could tell something was wrong. Stopped right away and checked my edge for codes and nothing came up. Then when i was sitting there it lit up and showed my tranny temp was 232. i let it sit and idle and cool off to 185 and then just shut it off and let it sit all night. Went back this morning and put it in drive and it feels like it is taking of in a really high gear. 1st and 2nd dont work when you go past drive to them. Reverse works. Anyone have ideas on what it is? will i need a new one or just rebuild this one? estimate on cost?

Did you clear the codes? They probably set because the temperature was so high, the TCM then put the Transmission into "limp" mode to protect against any more damage. Limp mode keeps you stuck in 2nd gear. Do a battery disconnect to reset the codes and see if the trans starts shifting.

I cleared the codes and it was still the same. took it to ford and after they looked at it they said the first and second shift selenoids were burned out. Fluid smelled and looked ok. Said it would need replaced. I am wondering if i can just take it apart and replace the two selenoids my self or if i really should just get a new one. They quoted me 3300$ total with labor included to replace it. I have a shop and things to do it my self i just like the idea of having a warrenty. any ideas on what i could do.
