Default Transmission whine

Hey.
I have a 2005 5.4 super cab automatic with 100,000 miles. Reciently I've noticed a whining noise coming from the tranny when in gear. When I shift to neutral it stops. I'm thinking the torque converter is going south.
Does anyone have any ideas as what could be wrong. I changed tranny fluid 20,000 mi ago fluid level is ok.

Thanks

Sounds more like the pump is starving for fluid. The torque converter is engaged as soon as you start the truck so it would whine all the time. If the filter "O" ring was misaligned during installation it will improper fluid flow into the valve body and starve the pump of fluid causing the whine. I'd drop the pan and check the filter again.

Thanks mark for the info.
Update- I put it on jack stands. Crawled under with engin running and the noise is the tranny tail shaft bearing. Guess I have to drop tranny now. Does anyone know if it's possible to change bearing by removing just the tail shaft housing?

I think it may be the tailshaft bushing. Any info on replacing??
