Default Transmission Problem

I am new to the forum so if this in the wrong section I apologize. I have a 2003 f150 5.4. I was driving yesterday when all of a sudden the truck seemed like it just slipped into neutral. After some research we decided that we needed to tighten the two torx bolts on the underside of the steering column. The play that was in the sifter is now non existent, but it will no longer fully engage in park or reverse. It also makes a whining noise when put in reverse. I am now lost and can figure out what the problem is. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Will it physically not engage, or just the PRNDL window doesn't line up properly? If it physically doesn't engage I'd drop the pan and look for metal on the magnet and/or you may have lost a bearing. If it doesn't line up in the window it is common for the white shift indicator adjuster to break at the threaded end. Also your shifter linkage may be out of adjustment.
