Default Transmission :(

Hello all,

I have a 98f150 4x4 with around 229xxx km.
Every once in a while the o/d light comes on and the truck starts shifting rough, but I can turn the key off and on again and it will go away. I havent read the code yet, because I can't afford fords price just to read the code( almost 200$) i replaced the speed sensor, thinking maybe that would work. It helped it doesn't come on as often.

Anyone have any ideas?
Thank you.

I replaced the speed sensor , I have been told that it may be a wire harness issues because it's weird that I am able to turn the truck off and on and it goes back to driving normally.

At over 200k I would say it is time for a rebuild if it never had one.

I had the same problem on my 95. I know its not the same tranny but the electronics work in the same fashion. My problem ended up being the MPLS on the tranny and my speedo. Get a junkyard cluster to start and change that, see if it clears up. if not change the shift sensor where the linkage goes to the tranny.

That would have been a E40D trans? I believe he has a different tran with a TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) and not an MLPS (Manual Lever Position Sensor), the TPS could be an issue, but I doubt it...
