tranny wont shift
Hi ive got a 1987 f-150 302 i swapped to a 1994 351 the tranny is an overdrive it runs good but just wont shift out of first. it seems like it gets to the point were it should shift and then acts like its slipping. any ideas????
Trans is from the 87, yes i think its computer controlled. It feels like it goes into second then nothing is there. you can flutter the throttle and it feels like neutral then it'll all a sudden pop back into first.
The tran is either an E40D or an AOD....the AOD is not computer-controlled; the E40D is. Why either transmission is not working correctly with the engine change is a mystery to me....if all the sensors used on the 302 were transferred to the 351.If the trans is the AOD, then the throttle position settings may have been messed up, and those settings must be right or the tran could suffer an early death.

FYI: The E40D will have a MLP sensor and harness/connector mounted on the shifter shaft lever. The AOD has just a rod or cable connected to the shifter shaft lever; there is no kick-down lever.

To unhook the tran control, if an E40D, from the truck system go here and invest in a TCS and harness:

It's not cheap, but it gives you complete control of the tran with no interference from the truck electronics.

Is the tranny from the '87 or the '94?
