Trailor brake
Have a 2010 lariat. Bought it used. Has a ford wiring pigtail for trailor brake that mounts in dash. I was wondering how much the plus minus ford switch cost and if anyone has installed one themselves how much trouble is it?
If I recall correctly, I paid just over $225 for the trailer brake control through Tasca Auto Group. It took about 15 minutes to install, then had to be flashed at the dealer so the computer would recognize the device.
Mine cost ($150 + $65 =) $215, doing some of the work myself. Install is not difficult, but you do have to remove a few dash panels around the controller slot, and those directly above the speedo.
Also there is an "empty" trailer brake receptacle taped to the wiring loom near the steering column - leave it alone. I don't know what it's for but look for the connector that's fully wired in. I located mine within a couple inches of the radio.
I paid $150 for the OEM trailer brake via eBay (fairwayfordmercury.com). Installed it myself, then paid $65 to have it flashed at the dealer. Some dealers wanted $125 or 150 to flash it. Which suggested what the "service experience" might be going to THOSE dealers.
After you plug it in don't be surprised that your truck does not respond in any way; until it's flashed.
