Default Trailer plugs

We just got a f150 and dont know what the extra sets of taillight plugs are for, do we have to install these. There are 4 different ones. We are moving and have rented a trailer. Will we have to install these plug ins?

Hi,

Exactly - Wait until you get to the rented trailer and see which one you need. Small trailers have the 4 or 5 flat plugs sometimes while bigger trailers have the 7-way round plug. The 7-way is usually meant for trailers with electronic brakes.

So the one that is already on the tailgate may not be the right one?

What year truck, and what do you mean by 4 different taillight plugs?

Got any pictures of what you're talking about on your truck?

I just figured out it may be for a rectangular plug instead of a round plug...tow harness

Yes - the plug receiver in your bumper is for the 7-way round plug, but you can plug the 4 pins flat rectangular plug by using the adapter (which is probably what you're talking about). Trucks usually comes with this kind of adapter, but I'm not 100% sure about the F150. Never checked mine actually.

It looks like this, but can be different.

The plug in the bumper has both a round 7 pin and a flat 4 pin. Shouldn't need any adapters.

If your talking about these wire harnesses that are in the glove box. The larger package is a wiring harness that installs in the dash so you can install an aftermarket brake controller. This is only needed if the trailer you are towing has electric brakes, and if you dont have the factory brake controller on the dash. The 2nd smaller one is just a dust cap for the tailgate camera in case you ever remove the tailgate.
