Default Trailer Brake Controller choices

Hello

My question is will an after market TBC work?

I just purchased a 150 STX 2024 and the dealer can not get the TBC to connect, as I understand.

It has Class IV Towing Equipment, Hitch and Trailer sway control, Trailer wiring harness and it does have the 4 and 7 pin plug. 2.7 V6 EcoBoost
I had it in the shop on the 27th and 31st and the dealer will call Ford tomorrow the 2nd.
Hopefully this will get resolved.

I bought this to tow a new travel trailer (5000 lbs) that is sitting on the RV Dealers lot because I can not tow it. Bought it same time as the F150 so I can travel a little.
The TBC is on the dealers Due Bill as part of the sale.

So the question is can another aftermarket TBC work?

Thank you

Jim

Should be doable. It will be a totally separate system from the factory set up. New wiring, 7-pin connector, relays, TBS, etc.

Something like the Curt Blue tooth, would that be doable?

I would not go with a Bluetooth controller. The dealer should be able to instal the factory one. If they can’t, make them find someone who can.

The oem controller is worth it with the dash integration.

Worst case would be an aftermarket like the Tekonsha P2.

Thank you

Per the Tekonsha web site there is none that will work. But I will dig in a little bit more.

I would not be relying on a bluetooth connection for my trailer brakes. Have you inquired with another dealer?

Not a problem.

Your truck with the tow package should be set up to simply instal the oem ITBC and have it programmed with Fords IDS software.

Id ask them what the issue is.

Is this an ordered or off the lot purchase? If the latter, have them select a different truck that they are able to get it to work in.

I’ve never heard of a dealer not being able to do this. It sounds like the person taking care of it for you might not fully understand how to do it? I’m not sure.

Either way, I’d want OEM. It’s fully integrated with the dash in the truck. You can see output and have control over more settings then you would with aftermarket.

I’d tell them they need to make it happen and if they can’t, to find someone who can.

Activating the OEM TBC should be pretty straight forward. When we bought our previous 2015 the trailer tow pkg did not include the TBC. I purchased the OEM version and installed it myself. I took it to a nearby dealer to have them activate the controller and it took about 30 minutes from the time they drove it into the garage to having it returned with the working TBC. It sounds like you either have a bad TBC or they are not familiar with how to activate it in the truck's software.

There is a problem with the 2024s. I have a receiver, 7 & 4 pin plug and the trailer or tow software built in but no TBC.
Currently there is a service request from the dealer to Ford. Will see.

Thanks for the replies.
