Default Tpms sensor question

Can you get the fault from a over inflated tire? I got the fault, checked the tires and all were good except 1 was about 2 pounds over, took air out and screen cleared up.

2lbs in either direction won't cause the tpms fault, as I understand it the system is only programmed to set a fault when a tire(s) fall below the programmed threshold as specified by the placard on the door jamb. Some where around 17%. Dunno why that percentage value sticks in memory.

I have seen two different tpms warnings on my truck.

One is the " Low Tire Pressure " warning on the dash screen the icon and audible tone, icon will flash and tone will sound a few times afterwards icon will stay illuminated. This has always been, for me, an actual low tire and will come back immediately after restarting the truck until I inflate the offending tire the to proper psi.

The other is " Tire Pressure Sensor Fault " warning on the dash screen, and the icon and audible tone do their thing. For me, this fault would happen after about a 20 minute drive or so, which I don't make often, and would always reset after a restart..
Long story short, my " Tire Pressure Sensor Fault " was caused by a cheap cellphone charger that I would sometimes plug my phone into on longer trips..
Here is a video I found at the time...

Thanks for the video. I had my charger on, never had a issue before. It's a good verizon charger also.

It could also mean that your TPMS batteries need to be replaced.

They say they should last 5-10 years, mines not even 4 years old yet.

My tire shop guy said they're good for 5 years, more or less. My truck was manufactured sometime in 2011. All but 1 of mine have gone out in the last year or so. Which is about 5 years. 1 is still soldiering on for now.

Are they an item you would replace all 4 or just the one giving issues, and trying to find out which one it is?
