See, this is what pisses me off and why Toyota's Pres is being investigated. Its not the recalls (every manufacturer has them from time to time), but the fact, that the top brass at Toyota knew there was a problem years ago, but did nothing about it, but didn't get rid of all the internal paperwork concerning the problems.... now its biting them in the ***...... good on them for that! That's what killing consumer confidence, the fact that Toyota lied and was willing to risk public safety to make a buck and become number 1.
The comments about the DBW system...... guess what? All manufacturerers use it nowadays and most cars/trucks have it now (our beloved trucks included). Its a proven and reliable system (back in the day,my 95 Kenworth T600 big rig was DBW, as were most of the OTR big diesels back then). Toyota made the mistake (as do allot of companies) of going with the lowest bidder on their electronic parts which control the DBW..... unfortunate, but it happens.

I agree with you 1000 percent. People in this country need to wake up. I have no problem with kicking the foreign auto makers out of the U.S.
Don't forget the 2 year U.S. beef ban the Japanese imposed on the U.S. that cost the beef industry billions of dollars.

Level the playing field. How many Japanese vehicles are imported/built in this country?
How many U.S vehicles are exported/built in Japan?

Then of course, there should be NHTSA personnel appointed to oversee all Toyota operations and tests (quality and crash) for the NEXT 10 years (if they are allowed to continue importing vehicles to the US.).

It would suck either way for the American workforce that make Toyota's, but as I said earlier, if this were to come to light with Hyundai or Kia, they would be forced to shut down all US stateside operations without batting an eyelash... but since ths is the "almighty" Toyota.... ugh.

This is exactly what must happen. There is a senator that has made a similar comment. We need more Americans to start thinking this way!

If Toyota was honest about the electrical issue, I would give them credit, and not have negative thoughts towards them. The fact that they knew about the issue, and decided to go the cheap rout (that didn't fix anything) really makes me question their integrity. Recalls happen, they are unfortunate, but a part of the industry. Now, instead of just fixing the root cause of the problem, they have to re-recall all those vehicles that have been falsely addressed, and waist even more man hours, resources and money. They brought the severity of this issue on them selves. I don't feel bad for them at all because of this. I just feel bad for the Americans workers, that could potentially lose their jobs.

And the fact that peoples lives are in danger (including you, me, my family, your family, and so on) and they just decided to bury their heads in the sand, REALLY pisses me off too. If someone with a faulty toyota kills my brother on his way home from work (just as an example), I'm going to be outraged, hurt and forever hold it against them.

Im no Toyota fan, but are you going to be the one who is going to tell the tens of thousands of US workers who build Camrys, Tundras, etc in the USA?

I am all for whatever it takes to get people here jobs. Bring in more Toyota, Honda, BMW, Hyundai, or whatever plants into the US.

Like it or not Ford and GM caused the people going to Toyota with crappy quality, horrible unions, and just **** poor management.

As the old saying goes, it takes a lifetime to build a reputation and 5 minutes to lose it. Ford and GM did that and now Toyota may be as well. I am glad Ford is in position to really ride this into even more profitability.

Perhaps you missed the final paragraph of my post... sounds like you did. Re-read and then respond.

Do you really mean to tell me that human life is LESS valuble than jobs? If so, you're rediculous. What I posted was a little extreme but the core idea is there. Obviously Toyota can not be left to their own devices so someone in a position of governmental authority needs to step in and make an example out of complacency.

That would be great in a perfect Utopia, it's just not going to happen anytime soon. Sad, but true. Vehicles aren't the only "comsumable" made in foriegn lands (where's that computer you are typing on made). Here's another idea...what if China and the rest of the world boycotted Ford, GM, and Chrysler products worldwide except for us? What would happen if they had the same "protectionist" ideas as you speak of....hmmm....To level the playing field, undo NAFTA and that would help alot.
