Default towing stuggles

I have a 2011 5L f150 146 wb 4x4 super crew cab with 6 speed auto with manual mode 3.73 gear ratio. Im having major issues pulling my 12' 2 sled enclosed snowmobile trailer with 2 sleds in it. Total weight is maybe 2800# max (1300 for trailer 1400 for sleds with snow and ice). It pulls good till about 80km/h. Can get upto 110 most times but runnning 3500 rpm in 4th in tow/haul. If i put it into 5th in manual mode i just lose speed till i down shift back to 4th. This is on relatively flat hiway. The dealer says no way this should be happening and are so insistent that its not right they are trying to talk me out of trading it in. Is this normal?

There is a section of the forum dedicated to towing here: https://www.f150forum.com/f82/

Towing 2,800 pounds on a flat road should be a lot easier than that as you noted, especially at speed (110kph/68mph). I would expect you'd be in 5th in Tow/Haul, not 4th.

How accurate is that weight?

Is it a big boxy trailer pulling on a windy day?

Check trailer brakes. I'm guessing they are sticky.

Easy check is to look for hot brakes after a drive or put in neutral and see if you can feel it dragging at 55-60.

Or you could jack it up.

Manufacturer has weight of trailer at 1280#. My new sled is 460# full of oil and gas so at the 700# estimate for each sled that i used would allow for over 200# of snow and ice on that machine. My older sled is 480 dry so i would say 550# with oil and gas and has not been used due to no snow so it has no snow build up in it. Trailer is single 3000# axle with max gross weight of 2990# which im under. I have not been able to measure tounge weight yet. It is worse on a windy day.
