I would get the 4WD. That way you have a reason to get a bigger boat. When I had boats I always used 4WD because I was on some of the worst boat ramps. More like two tire tracks leading to water. I have had to use my 4WD to get my camper out of some campsites after a storm. Never know when you might need it till you don't have it.

11 EB SCREW 3.15 LSD 5.5'
I traded in an '01 Dakota Sport, Quadcab, 4.7L, 2wd LSD on my '11 F150 XLT, Screw, 3.5 Eco, 2wd LSD and while I don't pull boats I do pull a lot of trailers, various configurations and weights, and with regards to the pull on hills, in the rain, snow, various elements, there is no comparison to how the F150 performs.
The Dakota was great, loved it, but anything the Dakota did the F150 does considerably better and with greater ease.
Good luck on picking out your truck.

It probably depends on the ramp. Where I live all the ramps are concrete or asphalt and in good condition. Since we don't get much snow in NC and I don't go off road I could never bring myself to buy a 4x4. So I've always pulled my boat with a 2WD. Granted my boat is small, weighs about 3000 with trailer. I've never had much trouble getting off the ramp, especially with my 2011 XLT. My 4 cyl. manual shift S-10, that was a bit tricky. Anyway you would probably be ok with a 2 WD but if you can afford it 4x4 would come in handy.

Keep in mind its a 7000 lb boat up a steep and windy compacted clay hill with a thin layer of gravel over it. I'm sure most good ole boys will know what clay does when you add water...

Not hatin on anyone that has a 2wd vehicle but here in Iowa I laugh at ppl tht hav 2wd pickups. I no sum pplay nor need 4wd but in Iowa you will at sum point or another. And a truck is suppose to b a blend of all vehicles in one. Haul tow go off road drive down the highway tak ppl places etc. So I think taking 4wd outa tht equation is silly and lessens sum of this areas. Just my thought tho
