Question Towing

I have a 2004 F-150 SuperCrew Cab, 5.4L V8 engine, 4x4, 139 inch wheel base, towing package, and the 3.73 axle ratio. A friend tells me that based on what he has heard from other F-150 owners, I will burn up my transmission if I tow my boat for long distances. The boat and trailer weigh, at most, 6500 lbs.

Is he right? Even though Ford rates this truck at 9200 lbs towing capacity, will I burn out my transmission early?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the board, Dane!

As long as you keep proper maintenance on the engine/transmission and don't try to race anybody while you are towing your boat, you should be fine. The towing package includes a seperate transmission radiator to help keep the transmission fluid from getting too hot while towing.

No you will not burn up your transmission. The thing to do is watch while you are towing. If it jumps in and out of OD then turn OD off.
