I hope you learned more than just what you can fight with an insurance company claim about, after that accident... (rolled my 1 yr old VW Cabriolet off a nice 100'+ cliff)
Learned many things. However, this accident wasn't my fault. I came around the turn and there was a car coming the opposite direction, and he was 3/4 in my lane! Swerved to miss him and my right side tires went off the pavement, lost control and the car flipped.
Probably the most qualified person to answer this question here considering I total them and write estimates to fix them for a living.
It depends on the state you live in what the total loss threshold is. For instance Pennsylvania the threshold is 80% of the value. NJ is 100% and Delaware is also 80%. I'm not positive but I believe Maryland is 75%. What that means is the cost of repairs need to exceed a certain point before the vehicle is deemed totaled. Some insurance companies have a different threshold that is lower than the state minimum as well. But those above numbers are set by the state legislature. An insurance company can also do what is called a constructive total loss in some states. Basically what this means is the total repairs are not over threshold however the additional costs of the repair may make the vehicle economically unrepairable. Factors they consider in this case are rental costs, the salvage value of the vehicle (how much they will get back when the vehicle goes to auction), open items (what is unknown but could be wrong), and a few other things.
In your trucks case it's probably worth over 30k still. It's going to be a tough one to total but you are probably well over 20k in damages.

Glad you're okay... that looks eerily like my 2013 King Ranch when a Ford Escape ran across the front end while my wife was driving it... she was fine but the frame on the truck was bent in two places. The found a LOT of damage when they disassembled it - nearly $30K in repairs and by the time they added in diminished value. they totaled it
They decided to total it after all. 22k in damages with damage done to the frame and firewall. I can’t say that I am upset about it. Came home last night with an ‘18 XLT Sport FX4 with the 3.5. Let’s see if I can hang onto this one for longer than a year and a half....
