I have a 351W in the truck. As far as which gears I'm going with I'm not sure. I just recently bought the truck and it came with the 36 tires. If there is even a lift kit on it, it is a small body lift. The fenders and bumpers are cut in order to fit the larger tires. So I'm not sure if the truck was re-geared or re-programmed. What would be the easiest way to find this out. (and I don't know the previous owner who made the mods)

Thanks
Bubba

like highschool or like college? 1000 bucks is a low estimate with parts, i have geared trucks for 600 bucks, my labor. if you never did it, i would suggest you take it in, unless you got all the tools and then know what you are doing, and if you do it wrong, you will need to do it all over again and possibly buy new gear sets again. not a job for a rookie, unless someone who did it is watching over.

sounds like a mud truck...as for your speed, get a gps or drive side by side with someone. to figure out the gearing, not 100% accurate, but close jack up the truck, both tires off the ground spin the driveshaft 1 full spin, and have someone count how many times the tire goes around....be safe when doing this..

When re-gearing do you do both the front and rear differentials? And how do you figure which gears you should put in?

in a 4x4 you must re-gear them both identical, other as close as possible. google "rpm calculator" enter the fields, tire size, trans overdrive, how fast your cruise at....i would run nothing less than 4.88's
