Angry Throttle Response Issue

I have a 2012 F-150 Ecoboost and am getting the P054A and the P0016 codes. The truck runs well and the throttle response is fantastic when I drive and then all of a sudden while I'm driving I push down on the gas pedal and nothing happens so I have to keep pushing the pedal until finally it responds and starts going. I can turn the truck off and then back on and everything will be fine for a few minutes for for awhile. The dealer says it is the timing chain and is telling me $1,850 but it doesn't seem like a timing chain issue as there are no noises like others say they hear. It seems more to me like a computer problem but I don't know. Can any help? Does anyone know if replacing the timing chain will do anything for this problem? It seems like it could be a sensor that needs replacing and not the chain? Am I getting duped by the dealer? It does have 104,000 miles but to me it just doesn't seem like a timing chain problem but I don't know. Thanks to anyone who can help, I can't imagine this is the only truck this is happening to.

Sounds more like the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) than a mechanical issue. I'm not an expert on codes...could those be related to either TPS or MAF errors? Should be a cheap and easy fix...if that's it.

A timing chain issue is not going to cause lack of throttle response. With the amount of mileage you have on your truck, it could be dirty sensors ( many you tube videos on how to clean and/or replace ) or it could be something as simple as a dirty/ gummed up throttle body. This is a "drive by wire" system. There is no "cable" connecting the pedal to the throttle body, it's electronic. If the blade in the throttle body were gummed up on a cable setup, pushing hard on the pedal would break it loose and you would have response. If it's gummed up on an electronic setup, the solenoid might not pe strong enough to break it loose. I would remove the intake tube and look there first.
Hope this helps you out!
