Question For those with kayaks

How do you carry your boats IN THE BED of your truck? I will not be getting a rack as I have an 8ft. long bed and both boats are under 11ft. long. I have a couple ideas up my sleeve but for those that 'yak and don't rack how do you do it?

If'n yoos gotz a 8' bed, with the tailgate down yoos gotz 9-1/2'. Only missing it by 18".

I'd throw a ratcheting tie-down strap around the front, thru the handles of the boats, (if equipped) and call it good. And flag the excess.

With having an 8ft. bed I planned on keeping the tailgate up and the boats sitting on top of the gate since they will only be outside the bed about a foot or so at that angle and then securing them.....with straps. My Necky has handles but they are attached to the deck bungees and I am not able to put a strap through them but I can put them under the decking.

How about w/ a headache rack? That way you can still open the tailgate w/ them loaded.

this what the wife and I do, only we have short beds. The paddles and life vests can either go tucked in the boats, or in the back seat

This is how I carry mine. You would need a headache rack that's wider at the top than mine to carry two that way. Like The SafetyRack instead of BackRack.

I made a sling that is small enough to fit over the ends of the kayaks about 3 feet down and use a ratchet strap crossed over the sling to attach to the tie downs. Just a short rope with a bowline knot at each end. Works great even over the rough roads we take to launch.
