Default Thinking of Mods/ Help With Wheel Shimmy

I have a 2006 FX4 and I'm thinking of lifting it up (6 inches), new wheels/tires, and an exhuast system. Any advise on what to do, or not do. Also what brands are prefered, or what brands to stay away from.

Also have had a problem since I got the truck with a wheel shimmy. The delership has changed all tires (twice), changed the ring and pinion, and some sort of dampener in the rear end as well. The shimmy comes and goes so that tells me that it is probably not a tire or wheel problem.

Any help is appreciated...

Patrick

I had a nice long response typed up, then my computer crapped. Not going to retype it, but you can look at this thread for some wheel/tire combo ideas.

For lifts there's Rize, Fabtech, RCD, Pro Comp, but the Rize 8" lift costs the same as the Rize 6" so if you're goign with Rize just get the 8". Moto Metal 951's are a popular wheel, but I prefer my Helo Maxx 6's over those. As for the exhaust get a Magnaflow and I would also look at adding a CAI (Air Force 1 or K&N) and a tuner (Xcal II w/custom tuning or the Edge with canned tunes). You can read my signature to see which way I went with my decision. Good luck.

I recommend going with a ProComp or Fabtech 6" lift and whatever wheels and tires you like. As far as exhaust you would have to listen to them to make your decision. They all sound good so you really can't go wrong.

Those are just some of the exhaust systems that are out.

If you are going to be doing any serious off roading I would go with the Fabtech b/c you could always get the coil overs which are great for off road.

Superlift came out with a 6" kit resently, I think, and with that kit they have traction bars as an option. Which I think is great if you are considering adding a nice amount of HP to your motor.

For tires it depends on what you are looking for. I would definetely go with Toyo M/T's if your wallet could handle the outrageous price for them.

ProComp also has a great lift for the money and also has many extra to go with it if your looking for a great lift. Traction bars and skid plates, brake lines and limit straps. In my opinion, Best Bang for the Buck.

Since when has Pro Comp made traction bars for F150's?

Get on there web site and take a look. But I don't have because I have them on my truck. They came out when they developed a lift for the new F150.

Default wheel shimmy

Had the problem with my 97 and turned out to be a warped rotor in the back.
