Oh no, I am definitely not trying to get into a, which engine debate. Just seeing what you guys thought about my experience today. While I am unsure what engine would be best for me, I know there is plenty of information through searching I can find on the internet.

A couple months back I drove a extended cab with the 3.3l V6, 3.73 rear end and 6 speed auto. I enjoyed that truck too. I do have a 20' enclosed trailer that I would want to tow once in a while, and a fishing boat. I have a diesel for pulling but would want my F150 to be somewhat capable for short trips.

UncleG, I never even thought of that....the rear end ratio was 3.31. They REALLY wanted to sell me that truck. I think no one wants it thats why. Bare bones, steel rims, crank windows, no cruise. Not really even a good work truck not being the 8 foot bed. For just $2,000 more they made me an offer with that XLT. I asked about the 0% financing with my down payment but he said I would not get the rebates with 0% so it was a wash is what he told me.

I always have to "sleep on it" for a decision. This salesman did not want me walking out the door without a truck. As we were leaving he went and got his sales manager who stopped us and did some small talk, again trying to get us in that truck. Pushy pushy!

Most of the time when people leave they don't return due to other deals or second thoughts. They know they need to sit you down before you can leave. I HATE pushy dealers!!!! I just walk out. Buying 12 cars between my wife and I over the last 15 years I expect to be wined and dined by dealers or I dog them out online any chance I get.

Ya, we don't need another thread to go south, it gets very olde, very quick.
I've had both, the 5.0 w/6 speed, and now the 3.5 Ego w/10. I really like the 10 speed, and I like the Ego in a bit different way than the 5.0. But the newer 5.0 has little more power stock than mine did. For what you want, saying you have a diesel as well, either one of the gassers would serve well. There's many that think the 3:31 is better than a 3:55. With the 10 speed, and comparing to the olde 6 speed, they could be right. Those first 3 gears on the 10 more than make up for the 3:31. I had the 3:55 in both, but I bought mine more/less for go fast work, and in the lower gears, it actually has more total reduction than a 3:73 with the olde 6.
As far as hunting, I haven't seen that even with a stock tune. Mine gets in the right gear all the time. Depending on how you are on the gas, it will skip 4th, and sometimes even 6th, but it downshifts pretty much through the gears, except when stopping. You'll come to just about a complete stop in 3rd, and then down to 1st. Just like the olde 6 speed.
Hope it helps.;)

A few years ago, like 22, I sold new and used cars at a local dealership. I had to take a one week course on auto sales prior to being placed. As I recall, some of the rules were, "Buyers are Liars". "Check their credit ASAP, and if bad, Broom 'em". "Ask what they want, then Sell them a car from the lot." "Get them on a test drive and Get the customer in the habit of saying "Yes", i.e., Rides nice doesn't it? (yes), Stereo sounds great right? (yes), A/C works great doesn't it? (yes), and so on....". And, "Never let the customer walk before talking to the sales or finance manager".

Scarlet, sounds like he was doing his job to the T. I guess I'm just stubborn. The dealer has a good reputation and sells a lot of vehicles on their lot. I havent diagnosed my breakdown yet as we just got a blizzard come through our area, so I wanted to see how far the repair would set me back.

I have searched some on this forum, but what about custom ordering? Spending all that money on a new truck, why not have it exactly the way you want it? If I could decide on the 2.7l vs the 5.0l, I would just want to order the base XL model with power windows and cruise, plus a few additional goodies. The sticker price on the 2.7 he was selling was almost $43,000, but was going to sell it to me for around $32,000. He said the XLT had more rebates than the XL. I built my own on the Ford website XL model for $41,000. Could I still get all the rebates? Heck I would pay 1,000-$2,000 more for just the way I want.

In 2010 I came into some money from a wrongful death suit involving my Dad. So I had the money to get the truck I always wanted. It was late into the year, around Sept.. Did a little research on he net, then went to some of the local dealers to test drive a few. Knew I wanted an F150, but I still test drove a few Chevy's and Dodges. No comparison. I wanted a Supercrew with the V8 (5.4 and 4.6 was the choice then). There was certain equipment I wanted on the truck, and even with the 5.4, it just didn't seem to feel like it had very much "Guts". Being late in the year I just couldn't find what I wanted. One day I was talking to my sister about it. She said, Since you have the money, can't you just go and order what you want? Aha! So, I went on the internet to research the new F150's. I discovered that the 6.2 would be available on the upper level F150's as well as the Raptor. So, I went back to the dealership that treated me the best and special ordered my dream truck. A 2011 F150 Lariat Supercrew with the 6.2, Max Tow and 3:73 LS rear. Pretty much ordered everything except the Chrome package, didn't like the rims. Or the Off Road package (wasn't available with the 6.2 then). Did a preliminary deal knowing when the truck would arrive, the incentives and rebates would probably change. The original price from the dealer stayed, just the rebates and incentives changed. The overall deal as I recall was better by a grand or so. I ordered it on Oct. 6th. 2010, and took delivery on Jan 21rst. 2011. I was originally told 6-8 weeks, ended up being fifteen! But that was unusual.

The dealer can lock in the incentives at time of order, and then you pick either those incentives, or the ones which are in effect at time of delivery, whichever are better.

That may of been what I did. Been a few years, Lol.

Yeah I was really leaning for the 5.0 too. I dont understand why the transmission felt so bad in the one I drove. It was shifting constantly as it was lugging. The salesman said it needed to "learn my driving habits." But yet the 2.7 with the same mileage (~30 miles) was silky smooth.

There may have had something wrong with the 5.0's trans and its the same as its in the 2.7. Drive another 5.0. These engines are magical

stevehin 04-15-2018 01:47 PM

Ruby, hope you are right about the magical in the 5.0, I ordered one 2-26. They said 6-8 weeks. That is not accurate in my case. It wlii be 11 weeks in my case. That's OK, as long as .9 stays in place thru May. I only need to borrow for 36 months. Any how, I am looking for mpg, better tha I had in my 3.5 eco, 2011. Very disappointing. My average over 33k was 13.9. Son in law has a 2016 5.0 with the 3.31. He gets 22 on trips. I think one problem for me was my truck had 3.73 rear. I didn't think about that when I bought. It comes down to what are your priorities. Mine is mpg in a f150. Please don't shoot back with "get a vw". I need a truck, too. Good luck getting what you want.
