Default Tailgate Stolen

Just want to warn everyone to always keep your tailgate locked. I didn't and mine was stolen while parked at home in my driveway. The police told me they're being stolen all over the country! Ffing thieves are stealing anything they can make a buck on. Hind site is 20/20 but I wish I had kept my tailgate locked. I had never heard of one being stolen until they got mine. Replacement is expensive!

Keep an eye out on local Craigslists and such. You may find the guy trying to sell it

I've had many friends get their tailgates stolen that is also why they now have the aftermarket louvered style tailgates. Real simple to do, just drop it to a 45 degree angle, disconnect the guys, lift on the passenger corner and it will come right out. Same on all modern pickups. Only exception is Dodge HD's have a bar that needs to be removed first that blocks the passenger side from sliding out of the pivot using a 8mm wrench, which turns a 2 min job into a 5 min job.

The entire process on a standard tailgate takes about 2 minutes or less. If you lock a Ford tailgate, takes about 6 because you unbolt the latch cover on the backside and unlock it that way.

Although we have a very low crime rate here in Maine I travel out of state enough to make this a very unwelcome issue. Thanks for the heads-up !

That sucks dude! People really do suck. I had my Mustang keyed a few weeks ago at work. Apparently somebody wasn't happy that I got a promotion!

I read other posts about stolen tailgates. I ordered the McGard tailgate lock for $20. If I had kept reading older posts, they also recommend a screw clamp on the tailgate hinge. It would have been cheaper, $2. They’re going to have to work a bit more if they really want my truck’s tailgate.
