Sorry have been off...Its a 2018 150 limited. Hasn't happened in about a month but has been sitting in the driveway for a month...hope this will change soon. It does have a recall for the door latch and can ask them to check the tailgate latch.
There were a lot of issues with 2018 tailgate latches not staying secured I don’t know if there is a TSB or not but it was a 100% known issue at the factory.
Just received the recall notice ,#20n03.
I use my truck mainly to tow my travel trailr during summer.I can't begin to tell how many times the tailgate opened on its own. I was toldby the dealer ,many times,"I must be doing something wrong" Whats worse is,when it opened,it hit objects ,damaging the gate.
Has ANYONE ever had damage done to their vehicle and requested repair additional to the faulty part. My 2018 Lariet with 13000 miles is perfect, except for the damage to tailgate. I hoped I'd someday get a reply as to why it opens on its own.Now I will seek to repair once the harness ans switch are redone. BUT,who knows if thats the REAL problem.Experience has taught me,( had to have NEW? fenders put on a 1yr old Dodge Aspen in 78,new fenders rotted thru too) they will replace parts, for SATISFACTION,which is the name of the recall"Customer Satisfaction Program" question is, Is the intent to FIX the problem,OR ,just satisfy the customer?I would settle for a mechanical gate handle over the electric on anyday. Really makes a person angry that, the blame was put on my during my questioning. As an old school guy,I bought their arguement and ,protected the FOB.Ford is the ONLY mechanic I deal with, last time I got "THE WORKS" oil change,I asked if there are any recalls. was told about the seatbelt ,then told,Its nothing to really worry about.
I just got a notice from Ford about this tailgate issue concerning my truck. It states that if the gate has unintentionally opened, to contact my dealer & have a new switch/wiring harness installed. They also extended the warranty on the gate to 150,000 miles or to 2030.
They are not calling it a "recall":
I got the notice yesterday as well, it looks like the problem is with 2017-2018. The strange part is the opening tailgate happened to me a couple a weeks ago. I guess the truck is going in after the COVID-19 thing is over with!
They won't fix it unless you've had problems, and only "warranty" it through a certain date/miles... Wow.
Might call the dealer and tell them I have this issue just so I can get it fixed before I really do have this issue and find out im outside their coverage window for one reason or another.
I got the notice the other day; says they are extending warranty coverage on it should it malfunction.
Do you think they will repaint my tailgate that got scratched when it dropped on it's own onto my trailer?
That hurt my brain to read!
Sorry to hear.
I left the tailgate down on a truck while trailer was attached (unloading while moving into my house). Driveway is steep enough that later when I pulled out of driveway/garage I found a nasty bend in the top of gate where it hit the post where a hand crank would be (trailer didn't even have a crank!). It wasn't obvious at first because trailer was level in the garage while truck was parked downhill.
